If you have read through the entire tour, I'm very impressed. Hopefully, you now are able to see that getting signed by a label, large or small, is much like starting a new job. And, like any job, if you want to make the most out of it, you will thoroughly prepare yourself. By getting involved with your career (together with your manager, your label, your agents, your lawyers, etc.), you gain an edge. You get out of it what you put in to it. Remember that your record company, managers, lawyers, agents and promoters are all resources for you. Regardless of the inarguable fact that music is a business, those who have chosen music as their careers did so because they are fans. Record company employees have experience as professionals but also insight as music fans. Use them as the valuable resource that they are. Ask questions and learn. You'll be a rarity and a pleasure to work with, and that makes them all want to work harder for you.
